Shadows over Monticello
It is with a heavy heart that I address you, observing that there are those in our midst who harbor a profound disdain toward our cherished America. To bolster their disdain, they endeavor to tarnish the memory of her founders, seeking to kindle the same resentment in others. Regrettably, I, Thomas Jefferson, find myself a target of their aspersions.
Rather than grounding their claims in the clear light of reason and scientific fact, these detractors weave tales to suit their fervent and prejudiced aims. More lamentable still, my beloved Monticello—once a beacon of liberty’s promise—has succumbed to their wiles, swayed by the lure of substantial donations. In doing so, it has strayed from its noble principles.
No longer does Monticello honor my legacy as it once did; instead, it daily casts shadows upon it, misguiding the minds of our youth and tainting their education. Is it any wonder, then, that so many young souls turn from me and from our great nation with scorn?
My countrymen, we must not permit this erosion of truth to persist. For over twenty years, since the twilight of the last century, Monticello has woven falsehoods about my character, and even now, as I set these words to paper in spirit, the deception continues.
If you hold fast to the ideals I championed—liberty, reason, and the pursuit of truth—I implore you to join me in reclaiming Monticello, my former home. Withhold your support from Monticello's coffers and call upon its keepers to restore integrity to their programs and presentations forthwith. In the meantime, seek the unvarnished truth of my life at ThomasJefferson.com, where facts prevail over fiction.
Since the 1990s, Monticello’s missteps have led astray an entire generation of our youth. Should we falter now, as too many have before, another generation—and those yet to come—will suffer the same fate. We, the vigilant patriots of this day, must not stand idly by. The time for action is upon us.
